Midjourney prompt

ImageMuse Image to Prompt Generator turns any picture into a detailed text prompt describing its subject, style, lighting, composition and camera. Choose a natural prompt, a Midjourney prompt or a Stable Diffusion prompt with a negative prompt, then copy it. Ten runs a day are free, with no sign-up.

How Do You Generate a Prompt from an Image?

Generate a prompt from an image in three steps:

  1. 01

    Pick a format

Natural writes sentences; Midjourney writes descriptors with parameters; Stable Diffusion adds a negative prompt.

  2. 02

    Upload and press Apply

A vision model reads the subject, style, light, framing and lens, and writes them down.

  3. 03

    Copy and reuse it

Paste it into your generator, then change the parts you want different.

Each prompt is written fresh, so the same picture can get slightly different wording that describes the same look.

What Makes a Good Image Prompt?

A strong prompt covers five parts, roughly in this order. Pick one to see it in a real example:

An elderly fisherman mending a red net on a wooden pier, documentary photography with muted, earthy colours, soft golden-hour light from the left, medium shot, subject on the right third, harbour boats blurred behind, shot on an 85mm lens, shallow depth of field.

Subject: Who or what is in the picture and what they are doing. Generators weigh the first words most, so the subject comes first.

Generated prompts follow the same structure: swap the subject, keep the rest, and you get a new picture in the same style.

How Do Prompts Differ Between AI Models?

Use the format that matches where you will paste it:

Tag-like phrases plus a negative prompt on two labelled lines. Set sampler, steps and CFG in your app.

  • Image captions and alt text

Use the natural format and keep the first sentence or two; for alt text, keep only what matters on the page.

What Can You Do with a Prompt from an Image?

  • Recreate a style for a seriesReuse one reference image’s style, light and camera for a matching set.
  • Learn to write better promptsCompare a picture with its words to see which phrases matter.
  • Brief a text-only generatorCarry a reference picture’s look into models that cannot see images.
  • Describe moods for a teamA written prompt fits a design brief better than a folder of screenshots.

Each format pastes straight into the AI image generator you already use.

Why Doesn't the Same Prompt Give the Same Image?

A prompt captures the content and look of a picture, not its pixels. Generators start from random noise every time, so even an AI image's original prompt gives a new variation on each run. Get close, then change one part at a time. To change a specific photo rather than recreate it, use the AI photo editor.

Frequently asked questions

Is the image to prompt tool free?

Yes. You can turn up to 10 images a day into prompts for free, with no account. After that, guests are asked to sign in, and signed-in users can keep going for 1 credit per image.

Which AI models do the prompts work with?

Natural prompts work with any model that understands plain sentences, such as Nano Banana, GPT Image, FLUX and DALL·E. The Midjourney format adds comma-separated descriptors and parameters like --ar, and the Stable Diffusion format adds a separate negative prompt.

Will the prompt recreate exactly the same image?

No. A prompt describes the look and content of a picture, not its exact pixels, so a generator will make a new image in a similar style each time. Use the prompt as a strong starting point and adjust details you care about, such as colours or the subject's pose.

Can I use it for alt text?

Yes. Choose the natural format and keep the first one or two sentences, which describe the subject and setting. Good alt text is short and describes what matters on the page, so trim style and camera details that a screen reader user does not need.

Is my image stored?

Your upload is saved to ImageMuse storage so the model can read it, and it is not shown in any public gallery. Our privacy policy explains what we keep and for how long.

What is img2prompt?

Img2prompt, or image to prompt, is the reverse of text-to-image: instead of turning words into a picture, a vision model looks at a picture and writes the words that would produce something like it.
