Acceptable Use Policy

What you can and cannot edit with ImageMuse AI photo tools: your own images, watermark limits, banned content and how violations are handled.

Last updated: 2026-10-09

This policy explains what you may and may not do with ImageMuse, including the photo editor, the watermark remover, the background remover and every other tool on the site. It is part of our Terms of Service. By uploading an image or running an edit, you agree to follow it.

We built ImageMuse to give people more freedom with their own pictures, not less. Most edits are allowed. The rules below exist so that this freedom does not come at someone else's expense.

Images You May Edit

You may upload and edit an image only if at least one of these is true:

  • You took the photo or created the image yourself.
  • You own the rights to it, or the rights holder has given you permission to edit it.
  • Your use is allowed by law without permission, for example under fair use, quotation or parody exceptions where you live.

You are responsible for having the rights to every image you upload and for how you use the results. ImageMuse does not check ownership before processing an image.

Watermarks, logos and other marks

Our watermark remover is meant for images you are entitled to use: your own photos stamped by an app or camera, drafts you watermarked yourself, or licensed images where the licence allows editing. You must not remove watermarks, credits or copyright notices to pass off someone else's work as your own, to avoid paying for a licence, or to republish stock or agency images you have not bought. Removing copyright management information can also be unlawful in many countries, for example under Section 1202 of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Prohibited Content

You must not use ImageMuse to create, edit or share any of the following, whatever the source image:

  • Sexual content involving minors, or any sexualised, suggestive or nude depiction of a person who is or appears to be under 18. We handle reports and cooperate with the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
  • Sexual or nude imagery of real, identifiable people, including "undressing" edits, face swaps onto explicit images and any intimate image made or shared without the person's consent.
  • Pornographic or sexually explicit content of any kind.
  • Forged documents: altering or fabricating identity documents, passports, driving licences, certificates, receipts, invoices, bank statements, tickets or any other document in order to deceive a person, business or authority.
  • Deceptive impersonation: realistic images of a real person doing or saying something they did not, made or shared to mislead people, damage that person's reputation, commit fraud or interfere with an election.
  • Violence and hate: content that promotes terrorism, threatens or incites violence, or attacks people based on race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, disability, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity.
  • Harassment: images made to bully, intimidate, humiliate or stalk a specific person.
  • Illegal activity: any other content or use that breaks the law where you are or where the content is shared.

You must also not misuse the service itself: no attempts to bypass usage limits, free-trial rules or payment, no automated scraping or bulk account creation, and no attacks on our systems.

Real People

Editing photos of people is one of the most common things you will do here, and it is allowed when you respect the people in them:

  • Yourself: you may edit your own photos in any way that does not break the rules above.
  • People who agreed: you may edit photos of friends, family, clients or models who are happy for you to do so. For commercial work, get that agreement in writing.
  • Public figures: commentary, satire and clearly labelled parody are allowed. Realistic fakes presented as real, sexual content and anything that falls under deceptive impersonation are not.
  • Children: keep edits of children to ordinary family, school and portrait uses.

If someone asks you to stop sharing an edited image of them, please respect that request.

Enforcement

If we find or are told that content or an account breaks this policy, we may, depending on how serious it is:

  • remove the content or the results that contain it;
  • limit features, such as free trials or certain tools;
  • suspend or close the account, without refunding credits that were used in violation of this policy;
  • preserve information and report it to law enforcement where the law requires it or where someone is at risk of harm.

When you submit an edit, we use automated checks on the input image and instructions; results of prompt-based edits are also checked before delivery. These checks can make mistakes. A blocked run is not charged. Several blocks within 30 days, or a single block for sexual content involving minors, suspend the account and device from running tools. If you believe a block was a mistake, contact support and we will review it. We also act on reports from users and rights holders, and we may review uploads and results ourselves when we have reason to believe this policy is being broken. Repeated copyright infringement leads to account termination as described in our copyright policy.

Reporting a Problem

To report content that breaks this policy, email support@imagemuse.ai with a link to or description of the content and why you believe it breaks the rules. For copyright complaints, please follow the notice process on our copyright page so we can act on it quickly.

We may update this policy as the product and the law change. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
